A foreign grape variety at an unusual stage was the challenge the Merlot plot sent us. Since we value what's ours, the value of some foreign varieties is evident in our terroir, and how grateful we were.
"Everyone leaves happy; memories are for those who stay behind."
The Varieties:
100% Merlot.
In the Vineyard:
Located in Lavre, 15 years old. The Mediterranean climate provides a wide range of temperatures, and the transitional soils from clay to sand in this extreme Alentejo region allow, despite low productivity, conditions for ripening with great aromatic expression and retention of freshness. Hand-harvested from this plot, transported in small 12 kg boxes to the winery.
In the Winery:
The bunches selected in the vineyard are destemmed and transported by gravity to a small wine press where they ferment at a controlled temperature for 7 to 10 days. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation follows, lasting approximately 15 days.
Aging:
24 months in stainless steel and 12 months in bottle.
